Enjoy the natural beauty surrounding this historic property which was enjoyed by Presidents Eisenhower, Carter, and others. Surrounded by well over 240 wooded acres and a mile long trout stream running past the cabins, it is quite surreal to sit and just watch nature and listen to the sound of the waterfalls. Sit on the deck outside or walk down the stream and you will find yourself going back in history. 20 minutes from Gettysburg. NOTE; If you are not fit or have problems with walking this place is probably not for you as the path walking up to the cabins is about 110 yards and is not an even path. The main cabin has a large living room and a half bath plus a big kitchen to make your morning coffee to bring and just sit outside on the deck. The kitchen has everything you need to cook anything you want. There is also a fireplace to make a fire on the colder fall nights. Most of furniture is original - even the poker table that was used to discuss important decisions during the World War II. There are 3 cabins with a total of 9 beds. Two cabins have 4 full beds in each, along with a bathroom and a closet. The overhang cabin is situated over the stream flowing down below it and the huge window lets you enjoy a view of the stream as you rest comfortably. A king size bed and a half bath is inside the cabin. There is WiFi at the main cabin but your phone will only work in certain spots. No TV. The caretaker’s cabin at the parking area has an excellent spot for using your phone. The main cabin which includes the kitchen and a half bath will be your main area to hang out. How many additional cabins you will need to rent will be up to you, depending on how many guests are coming. If you only want the overhang cabin with the king bed, another cabin will be open during your stay so you can have use of the shower. The caretaker Denny will drive your luggage up to the cabins and you will walk up the path along the stream. He will be available during your stay and I will be available through here. Close to Thurmond Maryland there are amble things to do in the surrounding areas. Ask me and I will give you a list of things to do. You will park at the caretaker’s cabin and walk up to the main cabins. You should wear comfortable shoes because it has rocks and plain grass on the path along the creek. There are lights along the path if you arrive when dark. If you have difficulties with walking this property probably isn’t for you, because you can only access it by walking up the path. This is a very unique and historic property. When spending time here you will without a doubt go back in time and also enjoy the sounds of nature. It is very resting and rejuvenating to spend a weekend in the Catoctin Mountains - away from the busy life of Washington DC, yet only an hour's drive. If you are on a trip to our nation’s capital give yourself the gift of a few days here. The cabins are open for weekend bookings, but send me a message if you are just passing through and want to visit for a night during the week - I can open it up for you.
