1 BR + sleeping loft 400+ sq ft guesthouse on a gated, fenced 5 acre property. This renovated (reno completed 2019) 1980's art studio has modern amenities and unique charm. Bathroom is a private bathhouse w/ shower & composting toilet. Large deck w outdoor bed & dining. Excellent views. Hiking nearby. 8 miles to Silver City. 1.5 miles to Ft Bayard Medical Center. Not suitable for children or individuals with mobility issues. Limit 2 pets. No cats (allergies) We call this guest cottage Godzilla because during renovation in 2018, our contractor said it was ' a real monster'. The initial structure was built as an artist/pottery studio by a former using reclaimed materials. It perches on the side of a steep hill. We stripped it down to the studs and added an additional room, 2 lofts, a bathhouse....along with insulation, heating/cooling, flooring(!), and a bunch of other items that made this quirky little studio into a charming little home. Godzilla is on our family property, but tucked completely away from the main house and the other detached living space. A gravel path leads from the driveway under a trellis archway. Follow the signs for 'Godzilla'. It's about 10-15 yards from your parking space to the front door. It has fast wifi, A/C and ceiling fans (as well has heat for the chilly days), a kitchenette (fridge, microwave, coffeemaker, 2 burner cook-top, toaster oven) with dishware and utensils. There's no oven. The sink is located in the bathhouse. (See photos) Dining table has benches. The living room has two comfy chairs, an ottoman and a TV. The bedroom has a raised platform bed with a double mattress. The sleeping loft has a king sized mattress. The bathhouse is about 2 steps from the front door. Again, it is completely private for your use. There is a step down into the bathhouse. It has a shower, composting toilet and sink. Hot water is fueled by propane tank. There are soaps and other toiletries for your convenience. We supply a bathrobe in case you forget your own. Since the sink is used for both bathroom and kitchen water-needs, we have a drying rack, sponges and dishsoap as well as handsoap. There is a laundry room just inside the front door of the main house. This is the only shared space. Please ask if you would like to use it. Parking is for one car in designated spot. Due to location, steps, size and design of home, this is best suited for one or two people only. It is not safe for children and is not ADA accessible. In addition to Godzilla itself, it's large deck, & the bathhouse, you have access to the whole fenced in area of the 'yard', which is about an acre, minus the pergola off the back of the main house. This is where we garden & gather as a family. There are gates on the back side of the property that leads to the rest of our land (approx 5 acres), but the terrain is very steep and rocky and should only be explored during the day, and at your own risk. Gates should never be left open under any circumstances. Laundry is located inside of the main house and use can be arranged with host. Godzilla is located on our family property. There is a large main house, one other detached living space (called Babadook), and a guest suite located at the back of the property (called 'The Upside Down; you will notice signs). Godzilla is about 40 yards away from the main house and is not visible to other residents of the property from the house or yard. Parking is specified by sign (Godzilla parking spot is labeled as 'Air B&B') and needs to be followed closely. If you have more than one vehicle, have a very large vehicle (like a camper), or plan on having guests, please consult host about accommodating. We are happy to help you arrange parking options in advance so there is no confusion or accidental blocking. You will see one of the hosts on Saturday mornings at 9am for 5-10 min as we perform routine maintenance and cleaning of bathhouse facility. Laundry room is located in the main house. if you'd like to use it, please contact host to make arrangements. Rural and private. The property is the very last one at the end of a dirt road. It is located on 5 acres. The first acre (on which the living spaces are located) is fully fenced. The views and sunsets are spectacular. The greater extended 'neighborhood' (which guests must drive through to get to the guest house) is a working class former mining community. As you drive in, some homes and yards may appear run down to you. Santa Clara/Arenas valley is very safe, and our property is secluded from the rest of the world, *and* is gated (not because of safety concerns). Although Godzilla is located on our family property, you will be completely unbothered by other tenants/guests. Any pets that travel with you will be sharing the space with our own dogs, and we have chickens and ducks (in a coop). A car is probably necessary. We offer a single parking space for air b&b guests. The property is gated. There is a keypad and a remote for working the gate. Guests will be given the 4 digit number combination for the keypad for initial arrival, and a remote control to use during their stay.
