Enjoy looking out at nature from the large 2nd floor where you will be the only guest (s). Very large bedroom, private bath, kitchette.. Semi-rural area with beautiful views, preserves, lakes and streams; many restaurants and cultural activities nearby. Additional sleeping space may be arranged for certain dates. Covid vaccine required. Cat in residence; guest pets will be considered. The rooms are bright and sunny. The kitchenette has refrigerator, coffee pot, toaster oven, microwave with supplies and equipment to make one's own continental breakfast or simple meals. Owner's kitchen can also be used by arrangement. There is a sunny, spacious deck off first floor that guests may enjoy using. It overlooks gardens and into woods. House is easily accessible from Beaverbrook Road and has parking in the driveway. It faces a large red barn, across the street. The neighborhood is semi-rural. Interaction with guests will depend on their wishes and interests and my time; I am often at home and enjoy talking to people. Lyme has been designated by Congress, as within a Wild and Scenic Area. Rivers and streams flow into beautiful Hamburg Cove and the Connecticut River. There are many places to enjoy nature: walking in one of the many Preserves, bicycling on rural roads, fishing on lakes or streams, kayaking on Hamburg Cove, swimming in a nearby Swimming Hole or a pristine lake in our State Forest or just sitting on our deck watching birds and enjoying the sun. Although the house is on a paved road, only a 1/2 mile off a state road, it is quiet and peaceful. Another house with a big red barn is the only property in sight and bedrooms are on the back of the house and especially quiet. Only 2 miles from the house is the Hopyard, a highly rated golf course open to the public. Exploring the area, a little further: Going south on Route 156, it is 7 miles to Old Lyme with a beautiful Main Street and the Florence Griswold Art Museum where one can enjoy the art, gardens and beautiful property on which, in October, artists create enchanting Fairae Houses. One can get on Interstate 95 west that easily takes one to interesting Shoreline towns including Old Saybrook and Essex both with colonial history and now many restaurants and shops. Going east on I 95 leads to Mystic with its Seaport and Aquarium , and only an hour from Lyme, to ocean beaches in Rhode Island. Foxwood and Mohegan Sun Casinos are also easy drives away and, in addition to gambling, offer many shows, fine restaurants and extensive shopping. Theater abounds at the Kate Theater in Old Saybrook, Goodspeed Musical Theater in East Haddam and the Ivoryton Playhouse in Essex, all within 1/2 hour from Lyme. On-site parking. No public transportation. Airports in Hartford, CT and Providence, RI about an hour away, by car. Amtrak trains stop in Old Saybrook, 20 minutes away, where there is taxi service. The house has a generator that starts whenever power goes out and maintains power for everything in the house. The cat is friendly but fearful of dogs.
