Private, quiet above garage apartment with beautiful forest views. Access to forest trailhead that leads to ocean. Newly remodeled unit with handmade Cambria Pines counter tops. Cozy gas fireplace, three quarter bath with custom shower and cal king bed. Kitchen nook with small fridge, microwave, sink, coffee maker and hot water pot. Wifi available. Two night minimum. Your hosts have lived in Cambria for 40 years and were blessed to be able to raise their 3 daughters here. Two daughters are still in the area, so now we get to have grandchildren nearby. Bruce designed homes in town for 30 years (including this house and the Owl Box) and is now a realtor/broker. Jayne is an artist that specializes in murals, children’s books, paintings and signs. You can see her mark in many businesses and homes around town. She loves to paint owls, as you will see when you get here! Both Bruce and Jayne love to garden and you will see the fruits of their labor as you look out over it and into the forest beyond. The garden includes a pond and a canary aviary. We also have chickens, don’t worry, they are downwind! The Owl Box was built in 2020 and is located over the garage that is detached from the home, so you will have a separate entrance and your own parking space in front. You will enter to the left of the garage along a pretty path leading you to a sitting area at the bottom of the stairs. The crafted staircase made from old growth redwood and barrel staves brings you up to the entry where you look out to a serene garden/forest view. It feels like you are in a tree house! As you enter the apartment you will pass through the beautifully handcrafted door, designed by Bruce and built by our artist/craftsman son-in-law, Evan. Evan is also responsible for the locally milled wooden countertops and trim in the room. Look to your left as you enter and you’ll see the handy breakfast bar complete with copper sink, coffee maker, fridge as well as tea and snacks . Cream and waters will be in the fridge. Again, looking to your left you will see the inviting king bed. You can lounge there and still see the birds outside! Jayne and her designer friend, Julianne and Jayne’s daughter, Kaci had fun decorating the bed and room with subtle colors and tasteful furnishings. Jayne made the curtains herself and painted the furniture. Scan to the right and you will see the sitting area and cozy gas stove. The chairs even have a story! They came from the “Western Whitehouse”, President Reagan’s ranch house near Santa Barbara. Look up and you can’t miss the lovely chandelier that will illuminate you evenings. It’s on a dimmer, as is all the lighting, so you can set the mood ! Looking to the back of the room, behind the pretty door is the bathroom with the same wooden countertops and copper sink. Our other son-in-law and favorite plumber, Landon, created the spacious shower. As was stated in the description, there is so much to see and experience in our area! From the relaxing, peaceful bird and wildlife watching , to hiking, biking, paddling, wine tasting or sightseeing, there is much diversity. Our climate is coastal and temperate and the cool temps make it ideal for outdoor activities. If you plan on spending much time in the water, bring your wetsuit! Of all the activities, my personal favorite is simply walking directly behind the Owl Box onto the forest-to-beach trail. Ten minutes of meandering through the Monterey pines and stately oaks will bring you to the beach. There is a bluff boardwalk trail along the waters ridge where you can see seals, pelicans and sometimes whales and otters! The Owl Box was appropriately named, not only are there owls in the area, but you will see woodpeckers, hawks, stellar jays, turkeys, turkey vultures, chickadees, squirrels and deer. Sometimes even a fox! Just 12 miles up Hwy One is the famous Hearst Castle. It is a storehouse of priceless history and art and if you’ve ever been-it’s a must! As you continue north, past the historic lighthouse, you will see the elephant seal rookery. The coast gets wilder and more spectacular as the cliffs meet the sea toward Big Sur. Hundreds of hiking trails and sights to see! Don’t miss lunch at Treebones restaurant! Heading east out of town on Hwy 46 more spectacular scenery as you head to the Wine Country. There are over 400 wineries to visit with prizewinning wines-so take it slow! If you want to take a different, winding drive you can go east out of town on Santa Rosa Creek Road. It’s the original road and on it you will pass Stolo winery and go past peaceful farms and historic homes, out towards Linn’s Farm. Of course there is the town of Cambria itself-an historic town with excellent restaurants and much shopping. There will be a list of great restaurants in the Owl Box. Top of the list is Robin’s Restaurant. Stroll around and acquaint yourself with our laid-back little town. You will fall in love with it’s charm. Favorite shop: Home Arts. Thank you for spending time here and we hope you will have a peaceful, rejuvenating stay and want to return again and again! The whole space. We always greet our guests and show them a few details they need to know in the Owl Box. We are available to be messaged at any time, they can even come and knock on our door (which is separate from the Owl Box, but only steps away.) We like to be friendly, but respect our guests' privacy. Quiet, quaint Cambria neighborhood. Hosts have lived in Cambria for 40 years, raised 3 daughters here. Broker husband, artist wife. Easy access to beaches - no traffic hassles here!
