Las Peñitas, just a thirty minute ride in a big old school bus from the revolutionary city of León, is the place which may change that. Not an off-the-beaten path destination due how many travellers pass through León, but it certainly isn’t viewed as such an essential stop as the more developed traveller hubs further down the coast. Indeed, those travelling on shorter schedules could be forgiven for thinking that there’s no point taking up a day of their itinerary surfing here in the north when they’ve already factored in a week or so down south (that’s exactly what we did first time round in Nicaragua).
