With close proximity to Puerto Plata's attractions, Villa 303 is located on a PGA golf course gated community; only 15 minutes from Puerto Plata town. Playa Dorada’s glorious fine sands, clean waters, and colorful reefs of Puerto Plata make this beach one of the most well-known tourist destinations in the Dominican Republic. The villa with its neighborhood Puerto Plata’s attractions has all the characteristics to be an experience and a dream vacation place. It has the best and most prestigious beaches within walking distance of shopping centers, restaurants, and bars. Puerto Plata Neighborhood Attractions: Home to more than 100 km (62 miles) of pristine beaches, the largest collection of preserved 19th-century Victorian-style buildings in the Caribbean, and a jaw-dropping mountain range hugged by a glimmering coastline. Fort San Felipe: Fort San Felipe is Puerto Plata's only remaining colonial structure and one of the first European forts constructed in the Americas. It was built between 1564 and 1577 to defend against colonists from other European countries, as well as pirates looking for silver and gold. Its primary use throughout the centuries has been as a prison. Inside its eight-foot-thick walls, visitors will find some interesting wartime historical artifacts as well as a small museum. The fort is ringed by a moat and outlined in lights at night, and the park below the fort is an ideal spot to view the sunset; there are excellent views from the fort as well. First Church of the Americans: Built over the ruins of the original 16th-century church built by Christopher Columbus at La Isabela–considered the first Catholic Church of the New World–Templo de Las Américas’ brick and stone colonial building. Its interior is replete with images of the Virgin Mary. Stroll inside and feel the constant breeze from the nearby Atlantic flowing through this spiritual site. La Isabela La Isabela in Puerto Plata Province, Dominican Republic was the first Spanish town in the Americas. The site is 42 km west of the city of Puerto Plata, adjacent to the village of El Castillo. The area now forms a National Historic Park. La Isabela was founded by Christopher Columbus during his second voyage in December 1493, and named after Queen Isabella I of Castile The Amber Museum The Amber Museum of Puerto Plata is a window to our prehistoric past, for the past 40 million years. Dominican Amber is considered among the most valuable in the world. This semi-precious gem formed during the Tertiary and Mesozoic periods, 25-40 million of years ago. Ancient Conifer trees produced a sap that oozed out of its branches, in many cases trapping leaves, birds, insects, and small animals like geckos. Damajagua Falls: Hidden in a lush Dominican Republic jungle, Damajagua Falls—otherwise known as the 27 Waterfalls of Rio Damajagua or 27 Charcos—are a series of 27 cascading waterfalls that were discovered in the 1990s. Located in the midst of sugarcane fields in the Northern Corridor mountain range, the hidden falls are a true off-the-beaten-path experience. Local offers a V.I.P. Day Pass which includes, a two-person buggy tour, ATV, Zip Lines, Horseback Riding & Pool Zip N' Splash Miles of coastline trails make the region surrounding Puerto Plata an excellent place to go off-roading while enjoying the beautiful views and spectacular, mountains, lush valleys, and rivers. There is a great day activity giving tourists the chance to drive their own ATV while being led by a local guide through the rural trails. This is a popular thing to do for couples, with plenty of stops along the way for photo-ops, as well as breaks to take a dip in the river and a visit to Don Chi Chi's for fresh coconut water. Snacks and beverages are also complimentary to keep you fueled and hydrated for your day in the sun. The birthplace of tourism in the Dominican Republic, Puerto Plata continues to pack a mighty punch. Its spectacular, sprawling landscape combines sea, mountains, lush valleys, rivers, and a multitude of beaches. Its fertile soil grows cacao and coffee trees, while underneath rests the world’s clearest amber. Savvy explorer Christopher Columbus knew there was much to discover on this northern Atlantic coastline–eventually finding gold deposits–when he glimpsed it from his ship in 1492. Drawn by the sight of clouds shimmering over Mount Isabel de Torres and illuminating Puerto Plata’s vast blue shoreline, he named the area the “Silver Port” and settled at La Isabela with a mixed community of Tainos–original inhabitants of the area–and Spaniards, built the first church and his first home in the Americas. You can follow Columbus’s trail and tour these archeological ruins, now part of a national park.
