Glass House - eye candy
This unique & recently upgraded Gaudi inspired home will fill your mind with light & colour. Without a straight line in the place it’s a feast for the eyes. The original rondavel is the kitchenette - it leads onto a cosy living room and bathroom (accessed by going down exterior stairs from the bedroom on the upper leve) & has access to one of the most iconic pools on the planet - this is a stay you won’t forget. Has a small lower patio & upper balcony with views across the Silole Sanctuary. This quite extraordinary space is the brainchild of the Croze family who moved to the Kitengela plains in the late 70’s. Inspired by the outliers of architecture (Gaudi & Hundertwasser) and Kenyan traditional building styles, they created their family home loosely based on the kraal or masai manyatta - a ring of huts encircling a central space). Glass house is one or the original huts in the ring. This home has grown organically (sometimes quite literally) for the last three decades. You will have unfettered access to the swimming pool and sauna (on demand - please give 3 hours notice). Nani’s Wonderland (sculpture garden and environs) is free to wander around in and Anselm’s glassblowing studio next door is a must-see, with lots of studio activities, some of which you can participate in. There is also a small cafe with fantastic coffee and delicious icecream and pizza (open 8-430). Either Anselm or Zorina will be available on the phone to assist. Further afield the neighboring National Park is a must visit (we can assist you with guide contacts), as are the Giraffe Center and Sheldrick’s elephant orphanage (they get booked up way in advance). Ubers will get you here, but generally won’t collect as we’re off the beaten path. We have some local taxi drivers we can assist you with if you require. There are also plenty boda riders available for the brave. We are situated on the edge of the Nairobi National Park. There are many baboons and Sykes monkeys who love a bit of thievery - mostly of food - so keep the windows closed when you’re not in the house. The bathroom is downstairs off the living room, so you will need to descend the exterior stairs to use it from the bedroom.
